TRMS Winning Short Premieres at Cannes
Table Read My Screenplay Austin Grand Prize Short Winner Denise Meyers has been making huge strides. Her contest-winning script is now a film, The Dark of Night, directed by Robin Wright and starring Sam Rockwell and Leslie Bibb, and had its red carpet premiere at Cannes. The film also made its North American debut at the Palm Springs Short Film Festival and the LA Shorts Fest in Los Angeles, and the TV pilot she wrote for a series based on the film was selected by the NY Stage and Filmmakers Workshop for the Powerhouse Season at Vassar College. The workshop, an invitation only event, took place on the Vassar campus where professional actors performed table reads for nine hand selected writers and mentors like Geoffrey Gilmore, former head of the Sundance Film Festival, and current head of the Tribeca Film Festival, director, Thomas Carter, and actress, Jennifer Westfeldt, provided insight on each project to help bring writers closer to their goal of a career in film or television.
Meyers optioned three projects with actor and producer Jay Ellis, who stars as Lawrence on HBO'S Insecure, and his producing partner, Aaron Bergman: Ride the Wind, a feature length screenplay and Athena List winner; her TV pilot Uptown and Downbeat; and Tie Dye Santa and the RV Lady, based on experiences Meyers has had as an award-winning screenwriter who still fixes RV toilets for a living. Meyers recently completed Truth Against the World, about the scandalous love story between famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright and his married lover, Mamah Cheney, an affair that ended tragically when Mamah, her children, and four workmen were murdered at Taliesin by an employee who burned the fabled home to the ground.
