WHAT IS A TABLE READ?

The read-through, or Table Read, is one of the most important stages for film and theatre production. It is when an organized reading of the screenplay is conducted around a table with a narrator and actors. The Table Read for a green-lit production usually takes place towards the end of pre-production, before the first shoot date, and before any rehearsal period. It gathers many of the cast members and production team together to read through the script and hear the story come alive for the first time.

WHY SHOULD I DO A TABLE READ?

A Table Read is also a powerful tool for identifying problem areas in the script during the writing process. Wooden dialogue, unbelievable situations or sections of the film that feel slower paced, which have not been addressed during the script development process, are often discovered in the Table Read and may now come under intense scrutiny. In addition to the Table Read, the Grand Prize TRMS experience will also including a 2-hour rehearsal workshop featuring a notable Director, so you will have the opportunity to sit in and see how professional artists work on breaking down the script to define character and plot for performance.
